Teachers can play an important role in increasing the response rate of Caracal evaluations
We know that more students complete the evaluation when they are actively encouraged to do so by their teacher. Below are some suggestions for using the Thermometer. At the bottom of the Thermometer knowledge base page you will find a Toolkit with visual material you can use for this.

• Announcement during the introductory lecture
  Tell students when they can expect the evaluation and explain the link between the course objectives and the course evaluation. Emphasise that it is a short questionnaire that helps teachers and students safeguard the quality of our teaching. If available, review last year’s evaluation results and use this information as a basis for the feedback you want to gather this year.
• Ask for targeted feedback
  Add a text to the evaluation in which you ask students for targeted feedback. You could also include a few examples of ‘good’ feedback from previous years.

• Share the link or QR code with students
  Students receive an email from Caracal Support Science with a link to the course evaluation. This link is also included in the email you receive as a teacher. Share this link in a Brightspace announcement and use a QR code during class that students can scan. You can also add the evaluation link to the exam matrix if you wish.

• Set aside time during class
  Set aside some time, roughly halfway through one of the last lectures, to ask your students about their experiences. Discuss course objectives, expectations and experiences together, and have students fill in questions 2, 4 and 5 in advance. Questions 1 and 3 can be answered after the exam.

• Respond to the results
  After the response period, you will receive an email from Caracal with a request to post a response. A substantive response shows students that their feedback is valued.
